Tablet Setup Overview
Configure the Galaxy Tab Active5 for its assigned NXT Wash role and verify its connection.
Before you start
White Water uses the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5. Android and Chrome menu labels can vary slightly by version.
Confirm whether the tablet will serve as POS, kiosk, or tunnel loader. Have the site's Google account and the installer-confirmed local server addresses ready. Connect to the site's assigned NXT Wash Wi-Fi network, whose name ends in -N.
Use a Chromium-based browser, including Google Chrome or Chromium, for NXT Wash. Firefox is not approved. The browser steps below use Chrome.
1. Set up the site account and remote support
- Create the site's Google account if needed, then sign in on the tablet.
- Open Play Store and download ConnectWise Control.
- Open Android Settings → Apps and select ScreenConnect.
- Open Notifications and allow notifications.
- Open Permissions and allow all permissions requested by ScreenConnect, as specified in the setup overview.
- Return to Android Settings and open Accessibility → Installed Apps → ScreenConnect.
- Set ScreenConnect to On.
2. Configure display and the temporary screen lock
- In Android Settings, open Display.
- Set Screen timeout to 30 minutes.
- Disable Edge panels and Taskbar.
- Open Lock Screen.
- Set Screen lock and biometrics to Swipe for initial setup. Apply the site’s screen-lock policy after setup.
3. Configure Chrome sign-in and autofill
- Open Chrome and choose Continue without an account. The site's Google account is already signed in on the tablet; this step concerns Chrome's own sign-in prompt.
- Open the three-dot menu → Settings.
- Open Google Password Manager → Settings.
- Disable Offer to save passwords and Auto-sign in.
- Return to Chrome Settings and open Payment methods.
- Disable Save and fill payment methods.
- Return to Chrome Settings and open Addresses and more.
- Disable Save and fill addresses.
4. Set the homepage for the tablet's role
In Chrome Settings → Homepage, set the appropriate address:
| Tablet role | Homepage |
|---|---|
| POS | https://pos.nxtwash.com |
| Kiosk | http://<installer-confirmed-server-IP>:5174 |
| Tunnel loader | http://<installer-confirmed-server-IP>:5175 |
For kiosk or tunnel use, ask the installer for the IP address and replace the entire <installer-confirmed-server-IP> placeholder. Do not enter the angle brackets or copy an address from another location.
- Return to Chrome Settings and open Accessibility.
- Set zoom to 80%.
- Return to the main Chrome window.
- If prompted for Chrome notifications, select Allow.
- Press the browser's Home button and verify that the assigned homepage opens.
For a POS tablet, continue with the certificate steps below. For kiosk and tunnel-loader tablets, finish with the role-specific functional check in the handoff section.
5. POS only: download the middleware CA certificate
- Open a new tab in Chrome.
- Navigate to
http://<installer-confirmed-middleware-IP>using the middleware address supplied by the installer. - On the middleware's download page, select its CA certificate file ending in
CA.crt. The exact filename is specific to that installation. - Choose Keep file when prompted about the download.
- If the Can't install CA certificates dialog appears, select OK. Continue through Android Settings to install the downloaded file.
Confirm the middleware server address before downloading its certificate; 192.168.100.50 is the standard server address.
6. POS only: install the certificate in Android
- Return to Android Settings.
- Open Security and Privacy → More Security Settings.
- Choose Install from device storage → CA certificate.
- Select Install anyway for the site middleware certificate downloaded in the previous step.
- Open Download.
- Select the same
CA.crtfile downloaded from the confirmed middleware server. - Select Done.
7. POS only: verify secure middleware access
- Return to Chrome and the tab used to download the certificate.
- Open
https://<installer-confirmed-middleware-IP>:5443using the same confirmed middleware address. - Verify that the page opens without security-related messages. If a certificate warning remains, report the exact message and server address to the installer before completing the handoff.
- Bookmark the page with the star in the address bar, then close that tab.
- Open
https://pos.nxtwash.com, log in and verify the POS functions assigned to this tablet.
8. Confirm the connection and hand off the tablet
Verify the following connections:
- POS display: In the open POS app, the red Disconnected indicator below Scanning LP means it is disconnected from middleware. Any other displayed state means the POS is connected to middleware. See the indicator.
- Middleware logs: On the correct middleware instance, compare connected-client counts with the expected devices/client sessions. The example
Sent event to 0 clients, KeepAliveEvent()shows no connected clients at those times. Investigate fewer or more connections than expected. See the log example. - Functional check: Confirm the tablet opens its intended POS, kiosk or loader page and that the assigned functions work. For POS, check applicable recognition, payment and wash-sending functions separately; a middleware connection alone does not prove those functions work.
Record the tablet's role, homepage and connection result. Complete any post-setup change to the temporary Swipe lock when handing the tablet over.
