White Water installation playbook
Prepare, stage, connect and test equipment during a White Water site conversion.
Prepare the site
White Water IT leads the physical installation and coordinates configuration and testing with the assigned NXT Wash implementation contact. Use the shared installation overview to coordinate with site management.
- Confirm merchant readiness, member-data exports and wash setup with onboarding.
- Confirm 50 Mbps download / 50 Mbps upload minimum internet service. Record existing ISP gateway, subnet and usable addresses if the site uses a static IP.
- Pull, identify and label cable runs. Terminate incoming site drops with keystone jacks and connect them to the switch with patch leads.
- Reserve 9U: router, patch panel and switch 1U each; middleware/Jetsons 4U; SMART1500LCD UPS 2U at the bottom. Mount the power strip behind the computer shelf. See rack dimensions.
- Do not stack equipment or place anything on top of the rack. Allow airflow around vents and clearance for plugs and cable bends.
- Clear kiosk interiors, confirm power availability—including ICS 120 V outlets—and identify shared or daisy-chained cabling that could affect other lanes.
- Prepare tablet Google accounts and NXT Wash Wi-Fi names ending in
-N. Arrange remote access and authorized access to the existing POS, TunnelWatch and network equipment. Keep credentials in the protected credential record. - Confirm equipment deliveries and missing items with the implementation team; verify current replacement-shipping arrangements.
Use NXT Wash Admin for current location information and controller codes. Gather the previous POS package, extra and command mappings needed for conversion.
Agree on downtime and access
Identify the on-site decision maker. Agree the lane sequence, downtime tolerance, opening/closing times, after-hours access and lock-up arrangements. Confirm whether the tunnel may run after hours and who knows its startup/shutdown process. Plan disruptive work after closing where required.
Stage equipment at the rack
- Inventory the delivery with the installer and packing slips.
- Prepare the UPS according to its installation instructions and support it in the bottom 2U. Connect power and confirm startup.
- Mount the rear power strip in the 4U computer area and connect it to the UPS. Confirm the equipment load and available outlets before connecting devices.
- Connect the preconfigured NXT Wash router WAN to the ISP router's LAN with a known-good cable. Power it on and wait for startup.
- Connect the NXT Wash router LAN to primary-switch port 23 and verify link lights. Use the network map for the complete port layout.
- Tell the installer the network is ready. Arrange ScreenConnect access for computers and tablets being configured.
- Charge tablets and mobile readers. Connect edge switches, middleware, Jetsons, cameras, RFID readers and card readers one at a time.
- Confirm each device works with the installer before moving it into the field. Use supported PoE ports for cameras and RFID readers.
A router showing a U with a bar is still booting. For plug in cable, check the WAN cable, port and link lights. For no internet, coordinate a comparison test with a laptop on the same ISP port.
Existing ISP static IPs
NXT Wash does not require a static public IP. Where one is already used, record the gateway, subnet mask, usable IP or range, and current WAN configuration. Confirm whether the ISP device is bridging the public connection or routing it through a local LAN.
A single public IP in bridge mode may already belong to another device. The network technician must decide whether NXT Wash connects behind that managed device or takes over the public IP. Moving it causes downtime; keep a recovery plan and coordinate any ISP restart needed to release the previous device.
For an agreed transfer to the NXT Wash router:
- Configure its assigned public IP with WAN disconnected.
- Begin the agreed downtime window and access the existing router locally.
- Change the existing router WAN from static to DHCP, then connect that WAN to the NXT Wash primary switch. Existing connections go down during this change.
- Connect NXT Wash WAN to the ISP device and restart the ISP device if required.
- Verify internet connectivity for NXT Wash, the existing router and its downstream devices.
Set up tablets early
Configure and test the Samsung Galaxy Tab Active5 with its assigned POS, kiosk or loader function before relying on it during cutover. See tablet setup.
Convert kiosks one lane at a time
- Coordinate the lane closure. Identify the feed, gate, RFID, recognition camera, optional Car Pics camera and card-reader cables. Shared runs may affect more than one lane.
- Install the lane power strip and switch. Move the feed onto the assigned primary-switch port and the lane-switch uplink, then confirm the installer can see the switch.
- Label and secure unused runs so they cannot be connected accidentally and create a loop.
- Replace the kiosk screen. Connect HDMI for picture, USB for touch and separate screen power; both signal cables connect to middleware.
- Install and connect middleware, IM30, gate or gate emulator, RFID reader and cameras using the lane port map. On the documented lane switch, only ports 1–4 supply PoE; verify the installed model.
- Check display, touch, recognition, gate operation, payment and installed cash devices before handing the lane back.
Use the model-specific XPT5 or ICS Auto Sentry guide. Confirm no-cut mounting and switch preconfiguration requirements before starting.
Move the tunnel loader
This interrupts existing loader operation. Identify the loader feed on the old X0 switch and move it to port 20 of the NXT Wash primary switch during the agreed downtime window. Confirm power and coordinate the NXT Wash role configuration and functional test. See POS and loader conversion.
Connect the TCS2 tunnel controller
This interrupts tunnel operation. Identify the feed from the switch at the top left of the TCS cabinet to the old X3 network.
- Have the installer confirm VLAN 120 on primary-switch port 22.
- Move the controller feed from the old network to port 22.
- Restart TunnelWatch and verify connectivity through TunnelWatch.com.
- Verify wash sending with the installer and operator.
For the TCS2 setup, check Setup → General Configuration → Queue Length = 1. Confirm applicability to the site before changing it; use Save and Invoke when making a change. Preserve the internal controller adapter described in the tunnel network guide.
Sites with rTC use their rTC configuration guide and assigned site-LAN connection.
